DOHMH
It is the acronym for Department of Health and Mental Hygiene in New York City : for windows in buildings with three or more flats – and that do not lead to fire escapes – the department requires that the windows be equipped with metal grilles or suitable opening limiters that prevent the passage of a child up to 10 years of age. The maximum opening must be 4.5 inches, equivalent to ~ 114 mm. The department’s approval allows the product and manufacturer to be included in a list used by architects, engineers, and designers to select a suitable device to limit the opening of the window.
To evaluate the conformity of a product, the manufacturer must create one or more windows of various sizes and types of opening and have them tested by a laboratory in the USA accredited by DOHMH according to its regulation ” Window Guard Regulations of the City of NY 6-30-91- Chapter 12″
Once the tests have been successfully completed, a suitable DOHMH commission issues a certificate for the product specifying its use: on which types of windows it can be mounted and for which dimensions; the approved product is
2017: certification of the art. 1456A mechanism suitable for inward opening, casement windows;
2019: certification of the art. 1459AB mechanism suitable for inward opening, casement windows.
